Did you know that there are over 275,000 websites going online every day? That’s over 1/4 of a million websites… being added to the Internet… every single day. Websites… with pages. Pages… constantly being indexed by search engines and added to search results.
Why is it that so many business owners who are experts in their own fields, and can explain to me why it’s best that they help me rather than me trying to do it myself, suddenly think they’re an expert in this field as well… and can do it themselves?
Here’s why you’ll never see your business website/blog on page one of any search engine:
- You’re using the wrong platform. I see so many ads on television and social media platforms selling the idea that anyone can build a “stunning” website in mere minutes. Some choose to use services specializing in a certain industry. Others opt to use free services with the promise that if they just fill in some blanks with key words, BOOM! They’ll be in Google! That’s simply not the way it works. The majority of these services still use SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques that search engines stopped utilizing years ago.
- You don’t understand what search engines want… or how they work. Did you know that you can get 3 different sets of search results depending on whether you’re logged into Google, not logged into Google, or searching on a mobile device? Did you know that you can do a search at 9:00 in the morning… and then do a search at 3:00 in the afternoon… and the results will be different? Depending on the industry, that difference could be subtle or it could be drastic. Did you know that your business can be ranked at the top of the list when searching using a desktop or laptop PC… but can drop to the bottom or disappear altogether when searching on a mobile device?
- You don’t know SEO. Search Engine Optimization is not something you can just read a few articles about and suddenly you’re an expert. I’ve always said, “The cool thing about Google is the fact that there’s a ton of information out there. The thing that sucks about Google is the fact that there’s a ton of information out there.” How do you know that the article you’re reading is accurate? That the author actually knows what they’re talking about? I can assure you that much of what’s out there is regurgitated and outdated information offered in an attempt to try and sell their services… and themselves.
There is no “fast track” to top search engine rankings. There are no magic widgets that will do the work for you. SEO requires years of knowledge and an expertise that most business owners don’t have time to learn or keep up with.
I’ll repeat the question. Why is it that so many business owners who are experts in their own fields, and can explain to me why it’s best that they help me rather than me trying to do it myself, suddenly think they’re an expert in this field as well… and can do it themselves?
Chances are, they’ve had a bad experience with a few so-called “experts” in this field. They’ve paid a great deal of money for the promise of great rankings, higher call volume, more business from their websites, blah… blah… blah… and they’re tired and decide to do it themselves. I get it. However, without proper education and guidance, they’re banging their heads against the wall and wasting valuable time and energy that SHOULD be going into running their own businesses.
